By far the most exciting and photogenic wedding of the year! Not only is the couple childhood sweethearts but it was their ability to see above and beyond the unseasonal torrential downpour on their backyard wedding day! Instead they laughed and indulged. What a visual treat compared to the ruthless sun beating razor sharp rays on every summer outdoor wedding! Never seen a summer this bright before…
Even the formals were fun especially the in–between–takes as the families braved the elements. As always the fabulous make up was done by the beautiful Jenny. Thank you to my kind and patient assistant Liam of course whom I hired on the spot and whom loyally held my umbrella to help the gear from being drenched. You guys all rocked!

Allison and Andy, backyard wedding, Esquimalt, BC
Kristine and Peter, Hatley Castle, Royal Roads, BC
The lovely and delightful couple Kristine and Peter chose Hatley Castle as their venue as this is where they met on campus. Not to repeat myself, but it is indeed a beautiful venue! It was a casual and elegant afternoon brunch wedding with a little session of croquet and a fancy afternoon meal catered by the amazing Truffles Catering. The winners of croquet or participants all received a huge garden squash from the couples’ garden. Their shoe game of “how well do you know your partner” was rather amusing!
Alexandra and Adam, Hatley Castle, Royal Roads, BC
Alexandra and Adam are also childhood sweethearts and what a treat it was to witness their union! I have no religion to speak of however if I were to choose one to emulate for celebration purposes, I would choose a jewish celebration. There is much activity and animation and joy! Who would not want to fly on a chair with your sweet heart next to you, or break a glass by stomping on it, or dance in circles with all your loved ones… and the list goes on! Alexandra and Adam along with their close friends and family were all pleasant to photograph! Both the food catered by Truffles and the venue Hatley Castle are visual and delightful treats!
Siobhan and Ian, Starling Lane Winery, BC
Starling Lane Winery is a magical place for weddings where you get a sense you’re in a summer wedding magazine article with bees buzzing, gorgeous backgrounds and kids are free to roam and play! Once again the flowers were from the lovely Vanessa and Jenny from Verbena Flowers. If I could freeze the magic light at the 7-8 o’clock hour I would! What I loved about Siobhan and Ian is they wanted to meet privately (well almost) first before the wedding on the blue bridge. Thank goodness for some shade cover! How blessed I am with magnificent couples!
Stephanie and Mike, Church State & Winery, Brentwood Bay, BC
Stephanie and Mike chose Church State and Winery as their venue and with reason, it’s a lovely contained venue which has both a beautiful location and excellent ambiance. The beautiful flowers are from the very kind and talented Vanessa and Jenny from Verbena Flowers. And the very talented Jenny from Pacific Make Up Group did the makeup. Stephanie and Mike with their humor and love for quarky images were a treat to play around with as we were trying to imitate the painting the “American Gothic” without the pitch forks but you get the idea.
Samantha and Byron, Sidney Yacht Club, Sidney BC
Samantha and Byron kept their wedding simple and low key. They happily married in a park next to their venue under a blazing sun with simple fold out chairs. Their focus was on the gathering of friends and family and the delicious barbecue that followed. Samantha and her bridesmaids were all dancers and such a visual treat to photograph! Byron who braved his tango lessen did awesome! As the family skipped along the path it reminded of a scene from the Wizard of Oz.
Caroline + Ryan, Villa Marco Polo Inn, Victoria, BC
Caroline and Ryan chose Villa Marco Polo Inn for their wedding ceremony and the Brentwood Bay Resort for the reception. Ryan and his friends got ready at the classic Empress Hotel and Caroline at Brentwood Bay Resort. A tad bit of driving here and there but was lucky with parking spots. And the very talented Jenny from Pacific Make Up Group did the makeup. The sun this summer is relentless, sharp as a butchers’ knife. Not a cloud of forgiveness… and I’m certainly not a fan of flash if I can avoid it. Available light is simply beautiful on it’s own. So in post I rekindled with the image wash technique to ease some of the hot spots and it’s been fun! Just a few images here and there to add some visual variety doesn’t hurt. Caroline and Ryan were a pleasure to photograph, always giggling and playful!
Katherine + Steven, Cecil Green, Vancouver, BC
Katherine and Steven chose Cecil Green Park House on the UBC grounds as their venue of choice for both their ceremony and reception. It’s wonderful when most events are contained in one area! Steven arrived on a horse in full RCMP uniform. Would have loved to include many other images but was asked to not reveal any of the RCMP officers in images which is most understandable. Steven and Katherine were mostly interested in doing unconventional shots which was a pleasure to comply!
Karen + Stacy, Cordova Bay, bc
Karen and Stacy opted for a beautiful backyard wedding in Cordova Bay. The June sun was relentless that day and I was truly grateful to be photographing their ceremony under a gigantic white canvas tent where the light was pleasant. My favorite location on their property was their stables, there I could have shot for hours! The food menu was catered by the famous Pete Zambris accompanied with Truffles Catering. Delicious! The beautiful flowers were created by Verbena Flowers and the creative and hard working wedding planner was Christine Smart. The day went flawless!
Saphina + Andrew, Brentwood Bay Resort, BC
Saphina and Andrew chose Brentwood Bay Resort as their venue of choice. A wonderful venue where wine and dine is key! Saphina and the pool environment reminded me of the famous photographers’ work of Helmut Newton. From a technical point of view it would have taken 5 assistants with reflectors to achieve Helmut’s lighting technique. I’m humbled Helmut! Wishing you guys the very best and Saphina and Andrew, you ROCK!
